Taekwondo became an Olympic Games sport for the first time in 1988 when it was included in the lineup for the Seoul Olympic Games as just a demonstration sport and not as a competitive one. That status did not, however, last long after it was excluded from the lineup of the Games when it went to Atlanta in 1996 but made a quick come back in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games as a full medal sport and since then, Olympic Taekwondo is very much a part of the roster and it will be so in the 2012 London Olympic Games as well.

The weight classes for taekwondo in the Olympic Games are divided into four divisions, both for men and for women. The events that the men compete in range from below 58 Kg to over 80 Kg and as for the women, the range varies from lower than 49 Kg to over 67 Kg. all these events in Olympic Taekwondo have some of the great matches in the history of the Olympic Games in their very short time as an Olympic Sport.

And the news wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if one was told that South Korea leads the medals tally in the Games, having won 12 medals overall, nine of which have been Gold. The United States of America hasn’t had a bad run in the Olympic Taekwondo as well, currently standing at third in the overall medals haul with 6 medals, of which two are Gold.

Over the years, many other nations have also begun competing in the sport but the Koreans proved too powerful for most of them until recently when the Koreans got their hands a bit too full. And that is what promises to make the sport one to watch out for in the Games. Frankie Edgar is rumoured to be taking part for USA – could get interesting!

Great Britain Taekwondo has signed a new deal with Tree Communications that will look after the Public Relations department as well as the marketing aspects of the team ahead of the European Taekwondo Championships of 2012. The event will be held in Manchester, which is also the first time that the event is being staged in the United Kingdom where it will be held between the 3rd and 6th of May, just before the London Olympic Games. The Olympic Taekwondo team for Great Britain will also be helped in its marketing aspects and Public Relations by Tree Communications, it is understood.

The owner and Director of Tree Communications, Sarah Gormley stated that it is an extremely proud moment for everyone at Tree Communications and she also added that Tree Communications was extremely excited at being given this opportunity to work with the Great Britain Taekwondo team just ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Although the Olympic Taekwondo official lineup for Great Britain has not been announced yet, this event in Manchester will be a good opportunity for youngsters to make a name for themselves and Gormley added that Tree Communications was looking forward to working with the team in Manchester, a first for the country in the European Taekwondo Championships.

Steve Flynn, who is currently the commercial director of Great Britain Taekwondo, stated that everyone was extremely delighted to be working with Sarah Gormley and her team at Tree Communications and they can look ahead to an extremely exciting year ahead for both the Great Britain Taekwondo as well as Tree Communications.

Ever since the sport was included in the Olympic Games in 1988, Great Britain have not managed to win the event and with more exposure this time, the Olympic Taekwondo must deliver at the Games as well.

Tae Kwon Do, a true martial art style is known to have originated before 2000 years. This great martial art style started from Korea. The main characteristics of this martial arts style are the high, fast and spinning kicks. This martial art is now practiced more as a sport than the fighting style and this is the reason why this style has now also become the part of the Olympic. If you want to master this martial arts style, then you should take it as a fun rather than taking it too seriously.

As told in this article, that the main characteristics of the Tae Kwon Do are the kicks but the kicks are not the only composition of this fighting style. Many people think that the kicks are everything in this style, but it is not true. A Tae Kwon do expert has to practice not only the kicks, but he should also spend time in learning the other moves of this style. Kicks are used maximum in sports but when a practitioner is practicing to become a fighter then there is much more to learn.

Benefits of Tae kwon do
There are many benefits of Tae kwon do. Tae kwon do is one of the best ways to learn the self-defense skills but without encouraging any violence. Tae kwon do improves the self-defense skills of the practitioners without making them violent. Tae kwon do is a much disciplined activity and promotes discipline in the individuals.

Physical fitness is the next important benefit of Tae kwon do. The regular practice of Tae kwon do helps the practitioners to gain a physically fit and balanced body. It means that if you are practicing Tae kwon do regularly, then you will not need to do anything else to improve your fitness.

The Tae kwon do training is given individually and in the group so it also promotes the communication skills of the practitioners.
