when i do this kick icoudn’t raise my leg… i can raise it but it was just like a low kick.. what should i do to raise my leg higher?

  • By ToDamCoolBitch, October 25, 2012 @ 2:56 am

Well you mainly need to become fixable, and you will get it with a lot of practice, weight isn’t really such a big thing cause one of my good friends fights heavyweight, he weighs about 110 kgs and he can do Taekwondo 540 Roundhouse Kick, but he mainly got flexable from Muay thai, But ya even me i just need to practice to do this, i weigh about 80 and can do this kick, but, i’m shit at my landing, I completely fuck up when it comes to that. But because i train muay thai and BJJ its easier to do

I’m 173 pounds, 5 foot 11. I’m just getting into MMA. I’ve had a few years of wrestling and one year of boxing. Any tips you can give me with using my weight during high kicks?

  • By TheCurryFiend, October 25, 2012 @ 4:17 am

this is a flashy kick, the 540 back hook is more useful for sparring

hey i got it in 6 tries cause of this vid, im 130, 5’8”, jump really high – use lots of force when you jump, make sure you’re bending backward, and be sure to “push” your non kicking leg into the air when rotating to get that last kick up

yes man! that’s what the problem is definitely. because i have the flexibility, i can kick high with normal roundhouses/side kicks, etc – it’s definitely the leaning back issue. thanks!

  • By Thomas Oh, October 25, 2012 @ 5:41 am

it means you need to lean back a bit more so that when your in mid air, your body is more horizontal to the ground. im sure you’ll get there easy if you keep practicing 🙂

  • By nathernrock, October 25, 2012 @ 6:08 am

    perhaps improve flexibility.

  • By Horizon4535, October 25, 2012 @ 7:06 am

maybe you got some injuries on your back i got some i was born with it so i cant raise it very high but with good training youll get it i maneged it too

  • By ajiboghareeb21, October 25, 2012 @ 7:51 am

Well I can kick high normally (roundhouses, side kicks, etc), but when I do this particular kick, I can’t seem to get the leg above the waist. From watching others, it looks like when the do the kick, they lean back so that their body is parallel with the ground.. I don’t think I do this, which is probably the problem.

Depends on your height, really. But if you’re having trouble with kick height, I’d suggest aerobics or yoga to help your flexibility.

  • By martinlindqvisthej, October 25, 2012 @ 11:27 am

just keep kicking. it will come 🙂

  • By waganaga2, October 25, 2012 @ 11:53 am

Well yes but the immense power generated from this kick should knock out most opponents, or they dodge and you land in a good position to follow through with a mule kick, back kick or spinning heel. But yes if you connect and it doesn’t phase them you will be put in a very tricky spot.

its been 3 years and now i’m back into it, it’s all new to me 🙁

  • By ihatersbitches, October 25, 2012 @ 1:25 pm

Just incase you miss your opponent you get to land and continue towards your opponent

  • By arik123357, October 25, 2012 @ 1:56 pm

you got it dude = you land on side most likely – after falling becuase your kick actually landed…

  • By den moore, October 25, 2012 @ 2:17 pm

the force the foot would give to your opponent would end the fight.

  • By MikeLukeIsCool, October 25, 2012 @ 3:13 pm

Exactly the same, except you gotta land on the same foot as you kick.

  • By Expertkillaz, October 25, 2012 @ 4:05 pm

it looks pretty similar to the tornado kick
