WTF LAUNCHES BIDDING PROCESSES FOR ITS NEXT EVENTS

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has started three distinct bidding processes for its events in 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2024 accordingly, as the Federation continues to apply a more systematic and collaborative technique for staging its events.


The registration, application, evaluation and selection stages for the bidding process for games in 2017 and 2018 will hold between January and March 2017 with the selection of hosting cities to take place at the WTF Extraordinary Council Conference in Bangkok, Thailand on 7 March 2017.

The Host cities for the events between 2018 and 2019 would be made known in Muju, Korea on 22 June 2017, before the WTF’s flagship event, the World Taekwondo Championships.

The procedure for choosing host cities for the 2019-2024 events shall be prolonged with interested prospective hosts invited to be present at an invitational workshop titled “the Partnership Workshop” in Muju in June 2017. The real bidding process will then formally commences with the bid registration in July 2017 and goes all through to the selection of the host cities at the WTF Council Conference in the first half of 2018.

The Partnership Workshops – the first of which was organized in June 2016 – grant potential hosts the opportunity to discuss their expectations and find out more about the prerequisites for delivering successful WTF events.

Potential hosts of the WTF events are required to register their bids, and then complete their applications upon submission of the bid documents according to the timelines of their bidding process.

Events open to bid for include the World Taekwondo Team Championships, the World Taekwondo Championships and the World Taekwondo Grand-Prix Series and the Final.

Also available are the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships, the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, the World Para-Taekwondo Championships and the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships between 2017 and 2024.
