concentrate on accuracy first. no point kicking as hard or as fast when one cant even hit the target. next, is speed. yes, speed. even if one is fast but not strong (like me), is not a big deal. i rather to be fast but weak than be strong but slow. if one is fast, he/she can quickly dodge the attack. after mastering speed, go for strength next. you might want to see this video (search youtube for /watch?v=qWZEWf6YLyo). its a workout that improves strength and lose fats. happy training! =)

    yes !

You may be very strong true , but is about speed and knowledge. Strength is meaning less if you fight Jackie Chan for example .A true martial artist would know that strength is not the only fact for fighting ,but strength can mean in many ways. I’m tired of people thinking all they need is in good shape and strength to be a good fighter it annoys me..

    speed is important than power?

Oh, i understand what you’re saying, perfectly. You think that by modifying Tae Kwon Do into a sport, the traditional value of it is lost and it becomes impractical as a martial art, correct?

  • By HiYouveBeenTrolled, July 4, 2012 @ 4:14 am

Haha look at all the tae kwon do flamers geez when i made that comment i myself was enrolled in tae kwon do, i said that not out of disrespect to the martial art but to my distaste for people who teach it and take away from the original roots of tae kwon do as a military martial art. Soooo instead of people randomly downvoting things why not understand the point first?

  • By Arkham A. Byss, July 4, 2012 @ 4:15 am

You obviously have no clue what a martial art is, then.

It’s all about how much weight you have in it. If you don’t put the strength into it compensate with speed. or vice versa. it’s all about how much time you have to get the kick in.

physic can answer your question. based on Newton’s second law. F = ma. F = net force ( u can say the power). m (mass) and a is acceleration (speed). Yes the more speed (acceleration) the power and stronger the kick is.
for example, a car with same weight. run a speed of 65mil/hour and one with 35 mil/hour run into a wall. which one hit hardest? ^^ sorry for having stupid example. but u get the idea.

You know in able to have speed, flexibility is involve? Flexibility creates speed and decreases injuries.

  • By Propagandist1000, July 4, 2012 @ 10:12 am

this is why you should throw a jab or a cross to throw your opponent off and then come with rear leg for the power.

  • By HiYouveBeenTrolled, July 4, 2012 @ 10:27 am

hm just saw this and i honestly doubt it i actually highly doubt it as of now im taking american jidokwan(mix of tae kwon do, jidokwan, and hapkido) as well as wing chun and then im starting BJJ over the summer

  • By Lamentfordeath, July 4, 2012 @ 10:40 am

Striking with the lead tools requires less mechanical motion and is half way to your target already.

  • By flash9tk, July 4, 2012 @ 11:25 am

Yeah, when I attack with the rear leg, it feels like I’m just open to be attacked.

  • By snjorRefur948, July 4, 2012 @ 12:06 pm

    hmm. maybe. *shrugs*

  • By JTeddyLubb, July 4, 2012 @ 12:46 pm

Yeah and you need power for speed. It’s just the same though.
